Abolish Mountain Top Removal - Conference March 31, 2012: Raleigh, NC

A CALL TO ALL MOUNTINEERS & Lovers of the Mountains: The Appalachian soul is under attack from king coal.

The cathedrals of natural splendor developed over thousands of years of glacial tides and isolated ecosystem evolution are falling prey to the ongoing race for cheap resources.

Join us March 31, 2012 at NC State University in Raleigh, NC for a conference for the abolition of mountaintop removal mining and a transition off coal energy.  This scholar-activist conference for the preservation of the Appalachian Mountains will use education and direct political engagement to challenge the systematic plundering of the mountains and their fragile ecosystems.  We seek to challenge king coal in Raleigh in order to take the struggle of Appalachia to the doorstep of the oppressive profiteers, Duke Energy and Progress Energy.  Appalachia, the second most biologically diverse region in the world, is more than an ecological sacrifice zone in which poisonous black gold is to be stripped from the earth.  Each valley and peak is a national treasure which must be preserved for future generations to come.

Throughout all corners of the hollows, people deserve a quality job and minimal quality of life free from the tyranny of fossil fuels.

COAL IS OVER.
